DUBLIN AREA ART LEAGUE IRISH SHOW

Old-Head-of-Kinsale_County-Cork_1-w-logo

I have two photos hanging at the Dublin Recreation Center as part of the Dublin Area Art League’s Juried Irish Show. All works portray people or places in Ireland or Dublin, Ohio.

My photo “The Cliffs at Old Head of Kinsale” won 3rd Place. It was a foggy morning in July, but the gulls were abundant and circling, the flowers were blooming and the cliffs were beautiful. Old Head in County Cork, Ireland, is a large promontory which juts out into the Atlantic Ocean and is one of Ireland’s most spectacular coastal areas. The Judge stated: “The contrast between the delicate flowers and power of the rushing waves is beautiful! Also the level of detail captured in the image is stunning. Nice job!”

The People’s Choice Award will be assigned in mid August. Please stop by the exhibit at the Dublin Rec Center and vote for your favorite!! Last day to vote is August 15!

Congratulations to the other winners and to all who entered!

“No house should ever be on a hill or on anything. It should be of the hill. Belonging to it. Hill and house should live together each the happier for the other.” ~ Architect, Frank Lloyd Wright.

Fallingwater, the house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for the Kaufmann family in SW Pennsylvania, is brilliant and a definite must see for everyone! Wright ‘s style was “organic”–in harmony with nature, The house is now open to the public and is cared for by the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy.

“Anything else you’re interested in is not going to happen if you can’t breathe the air and drink the water. Don’t sit this one out. Do something. You are by accident of fate alive at an absolutely critical moment in the history of our planet.” ~ Carl Sagan

Yosemite Falls

Yosemite National Park has to be one of the most beautiful parks in the US. Everywhere you look, there is another breathtaking scene or something majestic to look at. The weather changes by the minute, going from hot and steamy to cool and foggy to cloudy and rainy and back to cold and snowy. Photographing this park was so wonderful for me that I had to go back just 5 months after my first visit. The photos I’ve shared are just a few of the thousands that I took. This one is a view of Yosemite Falls that thousands of people see each day when visiting Yosemite. The falls are flowing more than normal because of the huge amount of snow they got this winter. So I was fortunate to see all of the waterfalls when the water was really gushing!

Golden Hour at Half Dome

“A kind of golden hour one remembers for a life time… Everything was touched with magic.” ~ Margaret Bourke-White, American photographer & photojournalist. It was awe-inspiring to see the sunset light up Half Dome at Yosemite National Park.

I wasn’t feeling well the evening that I took this photo, and we were going to go to the clinic, but halfway there, we found out that it was closed.  So we turned back to where our group was, and decided to take a few photos by the car while waiting for them to finish.  I saw that the sun was starting to light up Half Dome, so I ran over to Sentinel Bridge and started shooting.  It is wonderful to be in the right place at the right time.  This brought me joy, and I started feeling better (with the help of a few medicines).

Here is a photo of me waiting for the group.  Roberta at Yosemite phone photo 5-4-17

REFLECTIONS

The sun broke through the clouds for a brief moment, and the trees lit up creating beautiful reflections. The beauty, stillness and reflections brightened my spirit and refreshed my soul. At Yosemite National Park.  Sharing the beauty of the world, one photo at at time.
